Defective Design: Woman Rendered Quadriplegic Due to Defective Ford Truck
Ector County, Texas: On November 2, 2007, the tire of Lourdes Ibarra-Escamilla’s 1997 Ford F150 pickup had a blow out, causing her vehicle to lose control and roll over, crushing the roof on the driver’s side and causing Ms. Ibarra-Escamilla to suffer a broken neck, rendering her a quadriplegic.
Wigington Rumley Dunn & Blair LLP filed suit contending that the Ford F150 did not include proper structural and crashworthiness elements and mechanisms to protect Ms. Ibarra-Escamilla from suffering the serious injuries as a result of the roof and occupant compartment crushing in the event of a rollover. This case settled for a confidential sum.
