Defective Design: Chrysler Airbag Kills Woman
Hidalgo County, Texas: On November 21, 2009, a 1996 Ford Crown Victoria traveling on the wrong side of the road crashed into Juanita Carrillo as she was driving her 1997 Plymouth Voyager. During the crash, the driver side airbag did not deploy, however the passenger side airbag deployed, resulting in severe injuries to the passenger, Dominga Carrillo. Dominga Carrillo ultimately died at the hospital approximately an hour and a half later from blunt force trauma of the head as a result of the air bag deployment. The other passengers in the van received minor or no injuries.
Wigington Rumley Dunn & Blair LLP filed a suit contending the 1997 Plymouth Voyager defective due to its passenger side airbag, which deployed unnecessarily, untimely, and at such a force as to be a producing cause of Mrs. Carrillo’s death. This case settled for a confidential sum.
